Philosophy
The Stoics kept skulls on their desks. They were onto something.
Surface
Memento Mori is a Latin phrase meaning "remember that you will die." Far from being morbid, the Stoics used it as a daily practice to sharpen focus, eliminate triviality, and intensify appreciation for the present moment. Death as a productivity tool.
Middle
Marcus Aurelius wrote extensively about death not to cultivate despair but clarity. When you truly internalize your mortality, the petty anxieties that consume daily life, status, approval, minor slights, lose their grip. What remains is what actually matters.
Deep
Modern culture treats death as a failure or taboo. The Stoics treated it as the only honest lens. Every meaningful philosophical tradition, Stoicism, Buddhism, Existentialism, arrives at the same place: confronting mortality is not the beginning of despair but the beginning of living deliberately.
